Gursel Suer

Gursel A. Suer was a Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Ohio University.12 Born on May 20, 1960, in Turkey, he passed away on July 14, 2021, at the age of 61.1

Dr. Suer had an extensive academic background, earning his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Industrial Engineering from Middle East Technical University and a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Wichita State University in 1989.1 Before joining Ohio University, he worked for 12 years at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez.1

Throughout his career, Dr. Suer made significant contributions to his field:

• Published over 110 papers in journals and conference proceedings1
• Made more than 100 technical presentations1
• Served as an advisor to over 100 graduate students1
• Was on the editorial board of various journals1
• Acted as a committee member for the International Conference on Production Research1
• Served as the manufacturing area editor of the Computers and the Industrial Engineering Journal1

Dr. Suer received multiple awards for his work, including distinguished professor, research, and keynote speaker awards both domestically and internationally.1 He was also recognized with the Teaching Excellence Award from the IEOM Society International.1

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Suer was known for his love of soccer, classical guitar, and storytelling.1 He was an active member of the Athens Soccer community.1 Dr. Suer was survived by his wife Ayse, three children, and a granddaughter.1
