Getahn Ward

Getahn Ward was a prominent business writer for The Tennessean and a respected community leader in Nashville, Tennessee. His career at The Tennessean spanned from 1998 until his untimely death in December 2017 at the age of 45 due to a brief illness. Ward was known for his insightful coverage of the business sector, particularly in health care and publicly traded companies.35

Born in Liberia, West Africa, Ward immigrated to the United States and became a significant figure in journalism and academia. He also served as a professor at Tennessee State University, where he influenced many students and contributed to the field of journalism through education.45 His work earned him recognition and respect within the community, leading to the establishment of the Getahn Ward Memorial Scholarship at TSU to honor his legacy.6

Ward's contributions extended beyond journalism; he was actively involved in community service and church leadership, making a lasting impact on those around him. His passing was met with widespread mourning from colleagues, city officials, and community members who remembered him as an intrepid reporter and a model immigrant.12
