Fred Brown is the President and CEO of The Forbes Funds, a philanthropic organization affiliated with The Pittsburgh Foundation that focuses on enhancing the management capacity and impact of community nonprofits in the Pittsburgh area. He has held this position since January 8, 2018. Before joining The Forbes Funds, Brown served as the President and CEO of the Homewood Children's Village, where he worked on improving the quality of life in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
With over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and public education, Brown has held various leadership roles, including executive director and social worker. His work emphasizes innovation, capacity building, and sustainable social development, particularly aimed at empowering at-risk populations. He has a strong focus on addressing issues related to minority dropout rates in education and environmental justice.
Brown holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master’s Degree in Social Work. He has also been involved in professional development as a dean of students, teacher, and adjunct professor.
