Frank Mungeam

Frank Mungeam serves as the Chief Innovation Officer at the Local Media Association (LMA), where he leads initiatives aimed at enhancing local journalism and community engagement. His role involves overseeing two key projects: the Covering Climate Collaborative, which connects local newsrooms with scientific partners to report on climate issues, and the Lab for Journalism Funding, focused on developing sustainable funding models for local journalism.12
With over 25 years of experience in the media industry, Mungeam has held various significant positions. Before joining LMA in September 2020, he was the Knight Professor of Practice in TV News Innovation at Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism. There, he worked on innovative news formats and coached local broadcasters on performance-driven transformation strategies.2 His previous experience also includes serving as the Vice President of Digital Content for TEGNA's local broadcast stations, where he contributed to digital media strategies across multiple platforms.2
Mungeam holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Social Relations from Harvard University and a Master's degree in Communication and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University. He is recognized for his commitment to servant leadership and fostering a culture of innovation within media organizations. Additionally, he is a certified IDEO innovator and an executive coach.12
Outside of his professional endeavors, Mungeam is an author, having written books that explore the habits of successful innovators, including Dream It, Do It. He resides on a floating home in Portland, Oregon.2
