Francesca Santoro is a Senior Programme Officer at the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, leading ocean literacy activities.

With an academic background including an MSc in Environmental Sciences and a PhD in Analysis and Governance for Sustainable Development, Francesca has extensive experience in marine sciences.

Before her current role, she played a key part in establishing the Tsunami Early Warning System for the North Eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean, and connected seas.
