Fabrizio Opertti
Manager of Trade and Integration at Inter-American Development Bank
Fabrizio Opertti is the Manager of the Integration and Trade Sector at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington, D.C.12 He is an Uruguayan citizen.23 He was appointed Manager of the Integration and Trade Sector in October 2018.2 In this role, Opertti leads the IDB’s work to promote trade and investment, economic integration, and regional cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean.12 He manages a team of over 100 professionals to implement projects that promote trade and regional cooperation, from infrastructure to public policies.2
Opertti has over 20 years of experience in international trade, foreign direct investment, and regional integration.1 Before becoming Manager, Opertti led the Trade and Investment Division (TIN) from 2011 to 2018, where he supported LAC countries in trade facilitation, export promotion, and investment attraction.23 He also led the IDB Group-wide team that designed and implemented ConnectAmericas, a social network for businesses in the region, launched in March 2014.23 ConnectAmericas has over 240,000 business people registered from over 150 countries.2 As of January 2025, more than 15 million people from 186 countries have visited the platform.4
Opertti holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins’ School of Business, a Master’s in Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Political Economy from American University.13
