Erik Spiekermann
Erik Spiekermann is a prominent figure in the design world, known for his expertise in type design, information design, and large Corporate Design Programmes. He founded MetaDesign Berlin in 1979 and expanded it to have offices in San Francisco in 1992 and London in 1995. In 2001, he established the United Designers Network and later founded Edenspiekermann, which has offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Additionally, Erik started FontShop in 1989 and currently operates a letterpress workshop called Hacking Gutenberg.
Erik Spiekermann studied Art History and English Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. Over the years, he has been involved in various organizations and roles, including being a founder, consultant, professor, partner, director, and board member at institutions like Hacking Gutenberg, Applied Information Group, Edenspiekermann, FontShop, FSI Software, Galerie P98a, Universität der Künste Berlin, SpiekermannPartners, IDZ Internationales Design Zentrum Berlin e.V., University of the Arts Bremen, German Design Council, MetaDesign London, MetaDesign San Francisco, FontShop, AtypI, London College of Communication, and University of Reading.
