Eric Dawson

Eric Dawson is a seasoned Architect and Planner with over 30 years of experience in the UK and internationally. He is a member of the Urban Design Group and Academy of Urbanism, showcasing his dedication to the urban design field. Eric has worked in both public and private sectors, including being an associate director at two architect firms and running his own practice as a sole practitioner.

Eric's professional focus lies in understanding how individuals interact with the built environment. This interest has been honed through collaborations with various organizations such as the City of Edinburgh Planning Authority, Architecture and Design Scotland (A&DS), and Planning Aid Scotland (PAS), where he has volunteered to enhance civic engagement in decision-making processes. Additionally, he has contributed to the Scottish Government's planning reform efforts.

As a trained facilitator, Eric played a key role in developing the Scottish Government's Place Standard tool and has shared his expertise through lectures on placemaking. He has also dedicated his time to supporting community initiatives, emphasizing sustainable futures. Beyond his professional endeavors, Eric takes pride in raising two sons with strong values, advocating for positive beliefs, and giving back to his community.

Eric's educational background includes a Masters with Distinction in Urban and Regional Planning, as well as a BArch (Hons) and Dip Arch from Heriot-Watt University. Throughout his career, he has held important roles in various organizations, such as leading the Spatial Planning Team at the Scottish Government PAD and managing the Place department at PAS. He has also served as a Design Advisor and Architect Planner in esteemed institutions like A&DS and the City of Edinburgh Planning Authority.
