Emily Talley

Emily Talley, Ph.D., is the director of the Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability at Virginia Tech. She has over twenty-five years of experience in leadership, communication, and organizational development across various sectors, including higher education, national nonprofit organizations, and multinational corporations.1 Before becoming the director, she served as a faculty member and Managing Director of Graduate Education for the Master of Natural Resources program.2
Dr. Talley has developed curricula and published research on systems thinking competency development for graduate students in the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education.1 Her previous roles include senior director of community affairs for Capital One Financial Corporation, director of mission advancement at Gonzaga University, and environmental organizational consultant.1
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University, and both an Executive Master of Natural Resources and a Doctor of Philosophy from Virginia Tech.1 Additionally, Dr. Talley serves on several boards and committees related to sustainability and education.1
