Policy and Advocacy Intern at Alabama Rivers Alliance
Emily Magda is an Honors College student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), currently pursuing a Dual Degree in Political Science and International Studies, complemented by a minor in French. Her academic journey showcases a deep admiration for her hometown, Montgomery, Alabama, known for fostering initiatives like the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), Legacy Museum, and National Memorial for Peace and Justice.
Passionate about environmental justice, Emily serves as an Activism Co-Coordinator for the Green Initiative at UAB, where she actively promotes sustainability and eco-conscious practices. She also dedicates her time to educating young students on poetry through the Desert Island Supply Company (DISCO). Additionally, she is preparing her application for the prestigious 2022-2023 Fulbright Scholarship, highlighting her commitment to global learning and cultural exchange.
Emily Magda is adept at thinking creatively and excels in collaborative settings, often thriving in team environments. Her love for coffee is evident, fuelling her drive and energy to pursue her diverse interests and responsibilities.
Emily's educational background includes pursuing a Junior status at UAB in International Studies and Political Science, building on a solid foundation laid during her High School Diploma at Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School.
Throughout her career, Emily has held various roles within prominent organizations, such as serving as a Policy and Advocacy Intern at the Alabama Rivers Alliance. She has also contributed her talents as a DISCO Fellow at the Desert Island Supply Co., Activism Co-Coordinator at the Green Initiative at UAB, and Signature Core Student Consultant on University Teaching (SCOUT) at UAB.
Her experience extends to managing social media as the Coordinator at the United Nations Association at UAB, as well as handling marketing and user experience tasks during her internship at Analogue. She has also showcased leadership skills as the Co-Manager at UAB Rangeela and as the Vice President at the United Nations Association at UAB.
Emily Magda has a diverse skill set, as evidenced by her past roles as the Under-Secretary General of Logistics at AIRMUNC (Alabama International Relations Model United Nations Conference), Classroom Assistant at the Montgomery Education Foundation, Orientation Leader at UAB, and Director of Substantive Relations at the International Model United Nations Association (IMUNA). Her varied experiences, including working as a Barista at Cafe Louisa and a Figure Skating Instructor at the KLynn Skating School, have equipped her with a well-rounded perspective and a strong foundation for future endeavors.
