Eli Lehrer

Eli Lehrer is the president and co-founder of the R Street Institute, a free-market think tank based in Washington, D.C.12 He oversees all R Street operations, makes major strategic decisions, works closely with the institute's supporters, and is ultimately responsible for all of R Street's products.4

Lehrer co-founded R Street in June 2012, after previously serving as vice president for Washington operations at the Heartland Institute.3 His career includes diverse experiences:

• Worked as a speechwriter for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.1
• Managed Unisys Corp.'s Homeland Security Practice1
• Served as senior editor of The American Enterprise magazine1
• Held a fellowship at the Heritage Foundation1

Academically, Lehrer earned a bachelor's degree cum laude from Cornell University in medieval studies and a master's degree with honors from Johns Hopkins University, focusing on emergency management.12

Lehrer is a widely published writer, with work appearing in publications such as The New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today.2 He also serves as a contributing editor of National Affairs.2
