Eleanor Lyons
UK Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner
Eleanor Lyons is the current UK Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, appointed in December 2023 for a fixed three-year term.12 Prior to this role, she served as the Deputy Children's Commissioner.12 Lyons has a diverse background in public service and communications:
- She was Director for Portland Communication Consultancy from November 2019 to July 2020.12
- Between November 2017 and August 2019, she worked as Special Adviser to the Prime Minister, Defence Secretary, and Chief Whip.12
In her role as Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Lyons is responsible for:
- Encouraging good practice in preventing, detecting, investigating, and prosecuting slavery and human trafficking offenses.1
- Working with the government to improve the UK's ability to identify and support victims of modern slavery.1
- Commissioning research to strengthen the evidence base on modern slavery.1
- Building relationships with various stakeholders, including government bodies, businesses, academia, and civil society.1
