I am honored to be the inaugural H Ross Perot Sr Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Presidential History. This is a multifaceted role. In addition to conducting research on the ways in which imagery and ideas shape American concepts of leadership and identity, I  manage data and technology for an oral history project that the Center for Presidential History conducts with the Perot foundation in Dallas to provide both the scholarly community and the public with archival resources that illuminate the life, career, philanthropy, and legacy of H Ross Perot Sr and the Perot family.

I contributed columns on history, politics, and visual culture to the "Made by History" section of The Washington Post. However, "Made by History" transitioned from The Washington Post on July 28, 2023 to Time Magazine (beginning September 27,2023.) 

My first op-ed for the "Made by History" section of Time Magazine is scheduled for November 2023.

At the end of January 2020, I became Senior Editor of SMU’s scholarly blog called “The Future of the Past.” I am responsible for editing, assigning, and compiling content; creating publication schedules; choosing images for publication, and assisting with marketing. My goal is to increase readership and to improve the readership experience for existing patrons. Our content will be relevant, interesting, and ennobling.

During the transitional period of SMU’s graduate scholarly, history blog called “The Future of the Past,” I provided leadership as the Managing Editor. I developed a strategic operations plan for the blog and a marketing plan as an extension of the history department’s goals for public outreach. My plan went into effect at the end of January 2020, at which time I was promoted to Senior Editor.

I provide research, editing, interviewing, and technological support for the “Voices of SMU” oral history project that chronicles the experiences of African-American, Latinx, and Asian alumni and students on campus. This work provides institutional history that tracks progression and regression of equality within the SMU system. It also provides an in-depth history of Dallas and of the southern region of the United States.

-Traveling to various archives within the United States to complete dissertation research

I contribute columns about art and culture within the Dallas area. Instead of just focusing on specific events, I look at art and culture within a historical and philosophical framework in order to provide readers an in-depth understanding of what particular images and art mean within the context of societal and cultural identity.

I regularly contributed columns about art, culture, history and race for the SMU graduate history blog. I have written recently  about the  following topics: the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle), the meaning of iconic portraits of President George Washington, the role of Vogue magazine's September issue in explaining American culture,  and the political and social meaning of Colin Kaepernick's practice of kneeling during the national anthem.

Because I hold degrees in history and journalism, I taught a variety of courses at Paul Quinn College. During the school year, I taught U.S. History 1 and 2. During the summers, I taught Texas History and College Writing. In 2019, I received the honor of being named "Best English Teacher" by the incoming freshman class.

I write about bridal etiquette for those who are planning their upcoming wedding ceremonies. My focus is  communicating traditional etiquette rules while also maintaining a sense of what's practical, modern and appropriate for today's bride and groom. I cultivate and maintain relationships with bridal industry leaders in order to provide the best information to those who read my columns.

I created and implemented the city’s Instagram strategy for National Park and Recreation month. I increased followers by over 50 percent in 3 months. 

I photographed various Dallas parks for use in newsletters, press releases, postings on the city’s website and social media.

Nike Brand Coordinator

- I was an in-house Nike representative who possessed the responsibility of editing visual merchandising reports within the brand merchandising dept of DAVACO in Dallas, TX.  Nike collaborated with DAVACO to create a digital repository of Nike visual merchandising reports that chronicled the success of Nike's in-store merchandising. I was the report"scrubber"(i.e. editor) during the rollout. Because of my success in this role, I became the permanent Nike Brand Coordinator within DAVACO.
