Douglas Spencer is an expert in messaging and branding with a proven track record of helping leaders of mission-driven organizations sharpen their focus and craft messaging that protects revenue, reaffirms supporter commitment, and delivers results. He is the President of Spencer Brenneman, LLC, where he helps organizations build and secure loyal supporters, tell stories to showcase their indispensability, and focus on what is essential.
At Marietta College, Douglas studied journalism and honed his storytelling skills, which he's put to good use in his career. He started as an Assistant Director of Sales and Marketing at Bird Watcher's Digest and then worked as an Assistant Director of Public Relations at Brockton Hospital. Later, he became a Principal freelancer, Marketing Manager at Summit Strategies, and Vice President of Marketing at Thomson Financial. He also served as Thomson Reuters' Vice President of Brand Management before starting his consultancy firm.
Douglas's approach helps leaders who face messaging challenges, revenue risks, or organizations that are spread too thin. He has worked with mission-based organizations in various sectors, including healthcare, LGBT, and civic leadership. He's helped clients like Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Leading Cities, and Center for Primary Care at Harvard Medical School. They praised his work and impact on their messaging.
