Dougal Goodman
Vice President, The Foundation for Science and Technology
Dr Dougal Goodman OBE FREng is a British scientist who served as the Chief Executive of the Foundation for Science and Technology from 2000 to 2019.13 After stepping down as Chief Executive, he became a Vice President of the Foundation and continues to edit the Foundation's journal, FST Journal.12
Dr Goodman has had a diverse career spanning academia, industry, and public service. He is a former Deputy Director of the British Antarctic Survey and worked for BP in various roles, including head of safety and operations manager.1 His research interests include polar regions, studying sea ice and floating glaciers, and risk management in marine environments.1
Throughout his career, Dr Goodman has held numerous advisory positions, including serving on the Advisory Board of the Financial Services Knowledge Transfer Network and the Public Affairs Committee of The Royal Academy of Engineering.1 He is a Fellow of several prestigious institutions, including The Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Physics.1
Academically, Dr Goodman holds a MA and PhD from the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University and a Masters in Management from Stanford University.1 He is currently a visiting professor at Cranfield University and an Emeritus Fellow at the British Antarctic Survey.1
