Devi Lockwood

Devi Lockwood is the Commentary and Ideas Editor at The Philadelphia Inquirer, a position she has held since January 2022. In this role, she is responsible for commissioning and editing opinion essays that address topics relevant to the Philadelphia area, with an emphasis on incorporating diverse voices. Lockwood also serves on the Editorial Board and has been instrumental in building the Ideas section from scratch, managing a global cohort of freelance writers.12

Lockwood is also an accomplished author, known for her book 1,001 Voices on Climate Change, published in August 2021 by Simon & Schuster. This work reflects her extensive research on climate issues, which involved traveling to twenty countries across six continents to document stories about water and climate change.13 She has contributed articles to major publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and Slate, focusing on science, technology, and climate.14

Her academic background includes graduating summa cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in Folklore and Mythology, alongside a Language Citation in Arabic. She also holds an M.S. in Science Writing from MIT, completed in 2019.13
