I have one feature request for Apple Facetime on iOS:

Add the ability to LOCK it so that a 1 year old can't accidentally hang up on grandma mid-call.

I'm sure anyone with small kids knows exactly what I mean. Retweet or tag someone if you know someone.

So, here’s something SURPRISING I learned about the CPG space…

My company has the number one plant based protein powder in the natural channel.

We launched a snack bar, thinking, it will be easy to get another product into stores after we proved ourselves so remarkably well…

Wrong.

Landing our stores for this new product was just as hard as landing our first product.

At first, I was annoyed. But now? I think retailers made the right decision.

When you want to get into retail, you’re beholden to a category buyer. And different aisles have different buyers.

And success with one buyer, barely gives you any clout when building a relationship with a new buyer.

This was a HUGE surprise to me.

On the one hand, we did right by the retailer. But retailers aren’t just one entity. In reality, they’re multiple entities. Each aisle, is its own entity.

At first I thought this was stupid. But in hindsight I think this is probably the right way to run a retail store to ensure companies don’t earn shelf space they don’t deserve.

But also, in hindsight, I would caution any CPG company that’s trying to break into retail.

Do not create products that land in different categories in a retailer.

Focus on one category first. Win it. You will be starting over if you go to a different category.
