Matthew Irwin

Matthew Irwin is a versatile individual with a background in cycling, mariner activities, and a former diplomat, who currently holds the position of Director of Business Intelligence and Data Visualization at Mapbox. Matthew is also known for using the cactus emoji in his online presence and for heating his home with wood.

Matthew Irwin pursued his education across various institutions including Northwestern University where he studied a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Philosophy, Damascus University, and The American University in Cairo.

With a rich organizational history, Matthew has held key positions at Mapbox including Director of Business Intelligence and Data Visualization, Strategic Accounts, and Director of Government and Humanitarian roles. Prior to his current role, he served in various capacities at the U.S. Department of State, including as the Syria Team Lead, Special Advisor, Lebanon Desk Officer, and Political-Military Officer.
