Dawn Demps is an Assistant Professor in the Educational Policy Studies and Practice department at the University of Arizona College of Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Evaluation from Arizona State University, an M.A. in Social Justice Studies from Marygrove College, and a B.A. in Africana Studies and Social Sciences from the University of Michigan-Flint.12
Demps' academic work focuses on the historical and contemporary policies affecting the educational experiences of racialized populations, particularly examining issues related to educational exclusion and resistance strategies employed by these communities. She employs theoretical frameworks such as Black Feminisms, Critical Race Theory, and Community Cultural Wealth to analyze educational practices and advocate for policy changes that promote inclusivity.13
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Demps is a member of the Graduate Faculty at the university and has been recognized for her contributions to the field of education, particularly regarding Black education and student advocacy.14
