Daniel Klein
Senior Account Executive at Databricks
Daniel Klein brings a wealth of experience spanning various fields of engineering, research, and program management. With a doctorate degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Washington, and a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Klein is a seasoned professional with expertise in global development, dynamics, and control systems.
At the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Klein serves as the Senior Research Manager, where he seeks new ways to integrate big data and machine learning approaches to solve fundamental problems in global development. Before joining BMGF, he was the Chair of Applied Math and Senior Research Manager at the Institute for Disease Modeling, where he applied ideas from dynamics and control to problems in computational epidemiology.
Klein's research centers around HIV, but he also develops algorithms with broad interdisciplinary application. His work on computational epidemiology revolves around trying novel interventions thousands of times in-silico before applying them in the real world, optimizing interventions, and enabling sensitivity and uncertainty analysis to direct future research efforts.
Beyond his academic background, Klein has an impressive work history, including stints as a Research Scientist Intern at Intel Corporation, Information Technology Intern at Affiliated Engineers, and Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Santa Barbara. Additionally, he was a Visiting Scholar at Imperial College London.
