Wenfeng Gong, PhD

Wenfeng Gong is a Senior Strategy Officer in the China Country Office of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He is an infectious disease epidemiologist with extensive experience in research, strategy, and implementation in global health and global development. His expertise includes social science methods, epidemiology, advanced analytics, financial innovation, advocacy, and implementation sciences.
Before his current role, Wenfeng led a portfolio of projects to monitor global vaccine demand, explored various applications of data science techniques in the global development arena, and co-led a strategy to accelerate new vaccine introductions in China. He also worked at Johns Hopkins International Vaccine Access Center, where he led a research project in Pakistan to design and test statistical and operational innovations for immunization program monitoring.
Wenfeng has conducted many consulting projects for the BMGF, Gavi, and WHO on survey quality assurance, big data visualization, and vaccine impact and cost-effectiveness assessments. He was previously an Instructor at The Johns Hopkins University, a Program Manager (contingent) at Interactive Research and Development, a Gates Fellow at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and an Intern at GAVI Alliance.
Wenfeng holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Public Health/International Health, a Master of Health Sciences in Biostatistics both from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a MSc in Global Health from Duke University. He also has a GIS specialist background and has worked as a Research Assistant at Institut Pasteur of Shanghai-Chinese Academy of Sciences.
