Principal Digital Arsonist and Security Engineer, uTL for Red Teaming at Google (AI, Security, and Privacy Red Teams)
Daniel Fabian is currently the Manager of the AI Red Team at Google, where he leads efforts to enhance cybersecurity specifically for machine learning systems. He has over a decade of experience in Google's traditional security red team, which focuses on identifying vulnerabilities across various products and services. In response to emerging threats related to machine learning, Google established a dedicated AI Red Team around a year and a half ago, which Fabian now heads. This team is tasked with simulating attacks on AI systems to identify potential security weaknesses and improve defenses against adversarial tactics unique to machine learning environments.12
Fabian's role involves not only leading red teaming activities but also collaborating closely with AI experts to develop realistic adversarial simulations. This collaboration is crucial as the tactics and techniques used by adversaries targeting AI systems differ significantly from traditional cybersecurity threats. His team combines classic security measures with new strategies tailored for machine learning, such as prompt injection and data poisoning attacks.23
In addition to his managerial responsibilities, Fabian actively participates in discussions and presentations within the cybersecurity community, sharing insights about the evolving landscape of threats to AI technologies.124
