Dr. Cynthia L. Phelps, a PhD holder, is an expert in the convergence of technology and mental health, dedicated to enhancing individuals' resilience through evidence-based programs and technologies like mobile apps and online courses.
With a diverse skill set encompassing app design, game design, instructional design, coaching, teaching, and public speaking, Dr. Phelps designs innovative systems to facilitate behavior change and help individuals achieve their life goals.
As a former faculty member at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston within the School of Health Information Sciences, Dr. Phelps spearheaded the Learning & Technology Program, which educates students on leveraging technology for learning in health sciences.
Drawing from her unique background in neuroscience, learning, memory, cognitive science, psychology, and education, Dr. Phelps develops a range of technological tools aimed at enhancing learning experiences and driving behavioral modifications.
Dr. Phelps has secured government funding for various projects, including the development of a web-based adventure game on opiate drugs for children, virtual patient software for psychiatric nursing training, online neuroscience games for school children, and web interactivities promoting careers in neuroscience.
Her specialties include mental health app development, eLearning and behavior change, game design and evaluation, interactive media design, online course development, public speaking, and coaching.
Dr. Phelps's academic journey includes post-doctoral work in neuroscience at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, a PhD in Pharmacology from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, and a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Biochemistry from Hope College.
She has held various roles such as Founder, Coach, and International Speaker at InnerAlly Inc., Owner of HEALTH eDesigns LLC, Instructional Game Designer at Twist Education, LLC, Game Designer at Playnormous, Assistant Professor of Health Informatics at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston, and Digital game designer and consultant at Rice University.
