Christian Lutz is a seasoned entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in enterprise software. After studying Industrial Engineering at the Technical University of Vienna, Lutz decided to pursue his passion for technology by becoming a startup entrepreneur. He's the founder and president of Crate.io, the company behind CrateDB, an innovative distributed SQL database solution that empowers customers to turn data into business value.
Lutz's entrepreneurial journey started in 1996 when he founded his first software company, which was later acquired. He then founded UCP, a mobile internet venture that had over 7 million users. As CEO, Lutz raised €40mio until the company merged with Qpass and sold to Amdocs Inc. for $275m in 2006. In 2007, Lutz co-founded Fatfoogoo, a platform for trading "in-game-items," which was purchased in 2010 by Digital River Inc. In 2011, Lutz joined The Impossible Project, a company he co-founded in 2005, as its COO. After selling Impossible, Lutz co-founded Crate.io to build CrateDB, and they raised $30M for its development.
Besides his passion for technology and entrepreneurship, Lutz is an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys playing sports on or below water and climbing high mountains in winter and summer. He's also a foodie and loves to cook and eat while traveling in his free time.
