    Dr. W. Christopher Brandt, PhD, is an associate at the National Center for the Improvement of Educational Assessment with over 20 years of experience in education, including roles such as elementary teacher, college instructor, district assessment director, and researcher. He specializes in program evaluation, accountability systems, and balanced assessment systems.

    As a Center Associate, Dr. Brandt offers research, evaluation, and consultation services to enhance federal, state, and local assessment and accountability systems. He has led impactful studies including randomized trials and mixed-methods studies for various education-focused organizations.

    Dr. Brandt's recent projects involve evaluating and improving statewide assessment systems, developing rubrics for non-cognitive assessment, and analyzing identification and exit criteria for low-performing schools and subgroups under the ESSA.

    Prior to his current role, Dr. Brandt served in various positions such as Project Director for the SEED evaluation support contract, co-PI for the National Comprehensive Center Evaluation, and Deputy Director for the Regional Educational Laboratory–Midwest.

    Dr. Brandt holds a PhD in educational psychology from the University of Georgia, a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Science in Management from Purdue University. His areas of expertise include research methods, implementation fidelity, balanced assessment systems, and data use for school improvement.
