Dr Charlotte Carey

Charlotte Carey has an extensive background in the creative industry, starting as a freelance artist and filmmaker, then co-running an interdisciplinary internet consultancy. She has transitioned into academia, specializing in new media, multimedia design, web design, and entrepreneurial education.

Charlotte now leads the Entrepreneurship Research Cluster at BCU Business School, focusing on Creative Industries entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Education. She has evaluated EE programs in the UK and collaborated on EU projects related to social enterprise and EE in East Africa.

Her PhD research and long-term projects have given her a deep understanding of the creative industries sector, business challenges, and the barriers faced by individuals in this field. Charlotte is actively involved in the academic community, serving as Co-chair of the Creative Industries Entrepreneurship conference track and SIG at the ISBE conference.

Charlotte Carey holds a PhD in Gender and Entrepreneurship in Creative Industry Career Journeys, a PG Cert in Higher Education, and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, specializing in Time-Based Media.

Throughout her career, Charlotte has held various roles such as Senior Lecturer, External Examiner, Researcher, and Consultant at prestigious institutions like Goldsmiths, University of London, Newcastle University, University of the Arts London, and more. She has also contributed to educational institutions, including lecturing at BIAD, North Birmingham College, and Matthew Boulton College.
