The Biomedical Research Council (BMRC) supports, oversees and coordinates public sector biomedical research and development activities in Singapore to cultivate a thriving biomedical cluster. At BMRC, we:

oversee the development of core research capabilities in bioprocessing, genomics and proteomics, molecular and cell biology, bioengineering and nanotechnology, and computational biology.
actively promote translational medicine and cross-disciplinary research as part of our efforts to advance healthcare.

Formed in 1959, the Singapore Medical Association (SMA) is the national medical organisation representing the majority of medical practitioners in both the public and private sectors.

The objectives of the SMA are:

to promote the medical and allied sciences in Singapore;

to foster and preserve the unity and aim of purpose of the medical profession as a whole;

As Assistant Chief Executive (ENT), Professor Tan leads the Enterprise Division in steering efforts to translate A*STAR’s R&D to market so as to enable research-fuelled economic and social impact.

To gear up A*STAR for an innovation-driven economy set out by Singapore’s Research Innovation Enterprise (RIE) 2025 masterplan, a new Enterprise division (“Enterprise”) which integrates the functions of the Industry Development Group and A*ccelerate Technologies is established. A*ccelerate Technologies will remain as an entity to commercialise A*STAR’s IP portfolio. 

Enterprise will further strengthen A*STAR in generating economic and societal impact for Singapore. Importantly, Enterprise will create opportunities for greater synergies between A*STAR and partners in various types of collaborations, such as research collaborations, licensing, and spin-off efforts.  

Enterprise will work across a range of industry clusters including Electronics, Precision Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Chemicals Materials & Energy, Trade & Logistics, Connectivity, Modern Services, Built Environment, Retail, F&B, Hospitality, Agritech, Agrotech, Food & Consumer, Pharmbio & Biotech, Medtech, Diagnostics, Digital Health and Bioprocessing. 

Enterprise will also play a national role in terms of grant administration, and oversee national platforms like DxD Hub and BMS IPO, among others.

A*STAR's Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) promotes public sector research and development in the physical sciences & engineering. 

SERC:
- supports world-class research in A*STAR institutes in a wide range of fields including communications, data storage, materials, chemicals, computational sciences, microelectronics, advanced manufacturing and metrology
- plans and actively promotes research in strategic areas to encourage greater multidisciplinary research and collaborations across industries, institutes and sectors to create the knowledge and intellectual property that will drive the development of knowledge-intensive industries
- cultivates and engages an extensive network of industry partners via various funding schemes and attachment programmes to facilitate a seamless flow of technologies from conception to commercialisation 
- identifies and nurtures talented scientists and engineers to provide a ready pipeline of talent to academic institutions and partners.

SERC manages seven research institutes and several state-of-the art centres and facilities with core competencies in the above-mentioned fields to tackle global technological challenges and create future industries from its headquarters at Fusionopolis, Singapore’s iconic hub for science and technology research.

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) today established a joint venture - Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore (TCOMS) – to spur research excellence and advance Singapore’s Marine & Offshore Engineering (M&OE) industry. The Centre is also supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Mr S. Iswaran, Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) officiated the launch of TCOMS today.

Through strategic global partnerships with industry, research institutions and academia, TCOMS aims to sustain Singapore’s leadership position in the sector by enabling the local M&OE industry to undertake higher-value activities. A key feature of TCOMS is a next-generation Ocean Basin with forefront simulation capabilities, including smart sensing and integrated physical modelling and numerical simulation.

One of our key achievements is in lobbying for Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act (CPFTA) which came into effect on March 1, 2004.

Dr Tan Sze Wee is currently the Director- Strategic Initiatives, Science and Engineering Research Council. He provides leadership for the Council’s cross cutting programmes which include Thematic Research Programme, Joint laboratories with universities and Multi-disciplinary Research Programme (MRP). As Director- Strategic Initiatives, Dr. Tan will forge close links with other R&D performers in the public and private sectors and, thus, foster deeper engagements between SERC and the external community. He will concurrently spearhead A*STAR's Healthcare and Lifestyle Programme.

Under the Healthcare and Lifestyle Programme, there will be key initiatives like Medical Technologies, Nutrition & Food Science and Personal & Consumer Care.

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) is Singapore’s lead government agency dedicated to fostering world-class scientific research and talent for a vibrant knowledge-based economy.

A*STAR actively nurtures public sector research and development in Biomedical Sciences, and Physical Sciences & Engineering, and spurs growth in Singapore's key economic clusters by providing human, intellectual and industrial capital to our partners in industry and the healthcare sector.

A*STAR currently oversees 14 research institutes and seven consortia & centre located in Biopolis and Fusionopolis and their vicinity, and supports extramural research with the universities, hospital research centres, and other local and international partners.

A*STAR's Healthcare and Lifestyle Programme encompasses the medical technology initiatives, food and nutrition as well as personal care programmes. 

Medical technology initiatives include the collaboration between A*STAR and CIMIT (Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology) in Boston, USA, and A*STAR’s Biomedical Engineering Programme (BEP).

The BEP projects aim to develop and provide cost-effective, innovative and clinically impactful solutions for healthcare systems. With the active participation of clinicians who understand the needs of their patients, these projects will be highly relevant to patients and meet their needs. The intention is for these innovations to eventually be developed for the local, regional and international markets.

The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) movement was started in 1844 in London by Mr George Williams and a group of likeminded concerned Christians.  Subsequently, over the last 160 years since its foundation, the YMCA Movement has been established in more than 120 countries with 45 million members worldwide.
 
Established in 1902, the YMCA of Singapore is a Christian voluntary welfare organisation (VWO), affiliated worldwide, which seeks to serve and enrich all members of the community, regardless of race, language or religion, through wholesome programmes, to develop body, mind and spirit, which are based on Christian principles. Activities and programmes are organised with the aim of “touching lives and lifting spirits” among its members, community and beneficiaries.

YMCA of Singapore

The Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore (ASAS) is an Advisory Council to the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE). It was set up in 1973 to promote ethical advertising in Singapore and is the self-regulatory body of the advertising industry.

Self-regulation means the responsibility of ensuring truthful advertising lies with both advertisers and consumers. This works in the interest of both advertisers and consumers because it ensures that through fair play, there is a balance of trust and responsibility between them. In the situation that an investigation into a misleading ad uncovers an unfair business practice, ASAS may refer the matter to CASE for action to be taken under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act.
