Part of the Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness team, I work to measure and improve performance in key organizational functions. Significant achievements include:
 * Analysis of high turnover in key field positions, and design of an agency wide system to measure turnover and engagement. This tool compares motivation of leavers with engagement of people who stay to provide mangers with a diagnostic of areas of vulnerability for high turnover.
 * Evaluation of agency emergency response over the past ten years. A significant agency wide evaluation that contributed to a re-design of Mercy Corps' emergency response capacity and strategy.

An introduction to leading and managing international relief and development organizations, including INGO, UN organizations, corporations, and governmental organizations creating social value in the humanitarian space.
Drawing most of its core content from the international NGO world, the course focuses on the ways in which leadership and management of social value organizations is different from financial bottom line organizations.

Researched and wrote final report on the Disaster Risk Reduction pilot projects implemented under the Gates Funded inter-agency Emergency Capacity Building project. The report captures the practices and lessons learned from the projects and has been widely disseminated.

Save the Children

One of the first responders for Mercy Corps, I formed a key part of the initial response team, rapidly responding to the tsunami disaster. Utilized a rapid small grants approach to meeting immediate needs while strengthening local capacity and laying the groundwork for conflict mitigation programs and for rapid transition to recovery.

Senior Program Officer, Tsunami Emergency Response

Lead Mercy Corps’ immediate emergency intervention and played a significant role in designing a relevant and innovative medium term response to the Gulf Coast Hurricanes.

Deputy Director, Hurricane Katrina Response

Carried out assessments, developed proposals, and established Mercy Corps’ conflict response small-grants program in Central Sulawesi. Secured follow-on funding for work on locally based emergency capacity based on industry standards and effective conflict management skills.

Program Manager (assessment and startup)

Oversaw the five Central Asian country programs. Responsible for: supporting implementation; recruitment and retention of staff; compliance; proposal development and design; project and budget reporting; liaison between Director of Program Operations and field based program staff. Played a significant part in mid-term and final evaluations for several major programs, and in designing monitoring and evaluation systems, particularly for conflict related programs.
Led an assessment team for program development in Moldova, and was significantly involved in numerous proposals developed for Central Asia.

Senior Program Officer (Central Asia)

Played a key role in establishing and managing the rapid growth of Mercy Corps’ Maluku conflict response program from 2 staff in October 2000 to over 40 staff in three offices in March 2002. Held primary responsibility for security, logistics, administration and finance, and played a significant role in development and support of program activities.

Logistics and Security Manager (Deputy Program Manager)

Established the Kupang office and supported reproductive health, child tracing, and psychosocial interventions in the refugee camps in Atambua and Kupang. Following deterioration in security, managed the evacuation of the offices and program closure.

International Rescue Committee

Field Coordinator

Managed the rapid growth of a WFP food and non-food program for a peak population of 110,000 Kosovar refugees in the Durres region and onward logistics for several hundred thousand others. Responsibilities included all aspects of CRS commodity handling and distribution in the region, including management of 15 staff, donor liaison and reporting. Other duties included security, logistics, warehousing, customs, and port and airport operations.

Catholic Relief Services

Regional Food Program Manager

Responsible for procurement of over one million US dollars of humanitarian aid supplies, and distribution to conflict displaced families in Kosovo.

Project Manager

Responsible for the CRS food and non-food programs in southern Kosovo. Worked with a team of 5 expatriate and 18 national staff to serve a peak beneficiary population of 400,000 people. As the situation normalized, led an effort to ensure smooth transition from relief to development programming.
