Catherine Horvath is an experienced nurse anesthetist and educator with a distinguished career in the field of nurse anesthesia. She served as the Program Director for the inaugural Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Nurse Anesthesia Program at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing from 2019 to 2023.13
Dr. Horvath has extensive experience in nurse anesthesia education and administration. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia in 1987, earned a certificate of nurse anesthesia from New England Medical Center in Boston in 1992, and obtained her Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia from Northeastern University in 1996. She later earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Georgetown University in 2016.1
Her career in academia includes roles at Georgetown University from 2008 to 2019, where she served as an Instructor and Assistant Professor, directing various anesthesia courses and acting as the simulation director.1 After her tenure at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Horvath returned to Georgetown University in 2023, where she currently serves as an Associate Professor and Assistant Program Director in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program.12
Dr. Horvath is actively involved in research and scholarship, with publications and presentations on topics such as virtual reality in nursing education, student wellbeing, and the history of nurse anesthesia.1 She is also recognized for her expertise in teaching pedagogy and simulation best practices.1
Her professional credentials include Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), and Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (FAANA).12
