Carlos Zamora

Carlos Zamora Pérez, born in May 1968 in Calama, Chile, is a distinguished composer and music educator. He completed his primary and secondary education at the Instituto Obispo Silva Lezaeta in Calama, where he began his musical studies under the guidance of Carlos Pérez Rozas and Eduardo Cepeda Díaz. In 1985, he moved to Concepción to pursue further music education at the Universidad de Concepción, earning a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with distinction in 1990.
Zamora continued his academic journey at the Universidad de Chile, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Composition in 1993 and later a Master's degree in Arts with a focus on Composition in 2000. He achieved a PhD in Music from the University of York in 2020. His education includes studies in orchestral conducting and contemporary music, with notable instructors such as Wilfried Junge and Aliocha Solovera. He has participated in various composition workshops in Spain and has been involved in significant cultural events representing Chile internationally.12
Throughout his career, Zamora has composed numerous works, including orchestral pieces, chamber music, and choral compositions. Some of his notable works are Sikuris for symphony orchestra, Cuarteto de Cuerdas Nº2, and Missa Brevis in Memoriam Mater Mei. His music has been performed globally and recorded on over twenty compact discs. He has received multiple awards, including the Sir Jack Lyons Award and the Terry Holmes Commission Award from the University of York.12
Currently residing in England, Zamora is an active freelance composer, and his works are published by several international publishers, including Filarmonika and Editorial Nacional of Chile. He has also held various academic positions, including teaching roles at several universities in Chile, and has been involved in the National Association of Chilean Composers.12
