Carlos Astengo-Noguez

Research and Innovation at ITESM

Carlos Astengo-Noguez is an accomplished professional with a strong educational background in Mathematics. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Faculty of Physical-Mathematical Sciences at the University of Guadalajara in 1992, followed by a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from the Center for Exact Sciences and Engineering at ITESM Campus Guadalajara in 1994.

Throughout his academic journey, Carlos earned his Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence from ITESM Campus Monterrey and pursued specialized studies in Telecommunications at ITESM Campus Guadalajara in 1999. He also had the opportunity to collaborate at the Center for Numerical Analysis at UT Austin in 1997.

Within the Tecnológico de Monterrey institution, Carlos Astengo-Noguez held various roles. At Campus Guadalajara, he served as a professional and master's level professor, Director of the Department of Basic Sciences, and Departmental Teaching Instructor. He delivered extension courses and consultancy services to different industries and companies, contributing to business clinics as a Senior Consultant for organizations like Kodak, IBM, HP, and Flextronics.

His tenure at the Academic Vice Presidency involved leading the Training Program in Didactic Techniques from 1999 to 2003. Carlos acquired expertise in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) at Wheeling University, Case Method at Harvard, and Collaborative Learning at UT-Austin. He holds certifications as an Accredited Facilitator in Problem-Oriented Learning (POL) and PBL.

Transitioning to Campus Monterrey from 2003 to 2009, Carlos served as the General Coordinator for PBL in Engineering, Director of Research and Innovation Modality, and Head of the ALPHA Program for Outstanding Students. He also contributed as a BI Professor at Campus Cumbres and took on the position of Director at the CEDDIE Campus Monterrey.

His significant roles extended to becoming the National Director of the Centers for Teaching Development and Educational Innovation (CEDDIEs) and the Director of Professional Innovation (Undergraduate Studies Chief Innovation Officer). Additionally, Carlos was a part of the research chair for 'Distributed Knowledge Technologies and Intelligent Agents', boasting numerous publications in proceedings, journals, and book chapters, receiving several mentions and awards for his work.

Currently involved in Educational Research and Innovation at ITESM, Carlos Astengo-Noguez continues to contribute his expertise and experience to the academic and professional realms, making a positive impact within the field of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence.
