Michael R. Bloomberg

Michael R. Bloomberg is an accomplished entrepreneur, philanthropist, and former Mayor of New York City. Born in Boston on February 14, 1942, he grew up in a middle-class family in Medford, Massachusetts. Bloomberg attended Johns Hopkins University, where he financed his education through loans and work as a parking lot attendant. He furthered his education by obtaining an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Starting his career in 1966 at Salomon Brothers, Michael Bloomberg climbed the ranks, overseeing equity trading and sales. After being let go from the firm in 1981, he founded Bloomberg LP, an information technology company that revolutionized financial trading globally. Today, Bloomberg LP operates in 73 countries with over 15,000 employees.

As Mayor of New York City from 2002 to 2013, Bloomberg implemented innovative strategies to improve public education, foster economic growth, and prioritize public health. His administration focused on reforming the public school system, revitalizing industrial areas, and promoting entrepreneurship.

After his mayoral term, Michael Bloomberg resumed his role at Bloomberg LP and intensified his philanthropic efforts through Bloomberg Philanthropies, established in 2006. His philanthropic work employs data-driven approaches to drive global change, drawing from his experiences as both an entrepreneur and a public servant.

In addition to his roles in business and philanthropy, Bloomberg has served in various capacities at international organizations, including as a Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions at the United Nations, Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases at the World Health Organization, and Founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies. Throughout his career, Bloomberg has demonstrated a commitment to driving positive change and innovation.
