Brooke Ackerly

Brooke A. Ackerly is an American political scientist and Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt University.1 She has affiliations with the Human and Organizational Development Department, Law School, Philosophy Department, and Women's and Gender Studies Program.14 Ackerly is known for her research on grounded normative theory, feminist theory, feminist international relations, and scholar activism.1
Ackerly received her BA in French and Economics from Williams College in 1988, her M.A. in political science from Stanford University in 1993, and her Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1997.1 She joined Vanderbilt University in 2001, becoming a Full Professor in 2017.1
Her research spans political theory and international relations, with a focus on gender issues and political methodology.1 Ackerly has made significant contributions to theorizing universal human rights and feminist methodologies in international relations.1 She has authored several books, including "Political Theory and Feminist Social Criticism" (2000), "Universal Human Rights in a World of Difference" (2008), and "Just Responsibility: A Human Rights Theory of Global Justice" (2018).1
Ackerly is an Editor-in-chief at the International Feminist Journal of Politics and serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals.13 She teaches courses on feminist theory, feminist research methods, human rights, contemporary political thought, and gender and the history of political thought.24
