Brian Sugar, Founder of Avid Capital Advisors
Brian Sugar is an entrepreneur and investor with extensive experience in the commerce, technology, and media industries. He is the founder of Sugar Capital, a venture capital firm focused on early-stage investments in the future of commerce.1
Prior to starting Sugar Capital, Brian co-founded POPSUGAR, a global media and commerce company, in 2006. He also founded Sugar Media, an IPTV technology company that was acquired by AT&T in 2006.1
In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, Brian has a long history of success in the ecommerce space, having previously served as Chief Web Officer of Kmart's Bluelight.com and as VP of eCommerce at J.Crew.1
Brian is also an investor and advisor, having worked with many successful companies, including Afterpay (acquired by Square), Everlane, and Optimizely (acquired by Episerver).1
In 2023, Brian and his wife Lisa Sugar raised a $33 million second venture fund, Sugar Capital Fund II, to invest in consumer brands and software powering the future of retail.2 They also launched Avid Capital Advisors, a boutique investment bank that advises startups on M&A deals.23
Brian serves on the boards of Disco Networks, Everlane, and Novel Commerce.1 He lives in San Francisco with his wife Lisa and their family.1
