Bowen Hui is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics at The University of British Columbia (UBC). His academic work primarily focuses on developing educational technology aimed at personalized learning across various age groups and disciplines. Hui's projects are released as open educational resources to enhance equitable access to education. His research involves the application of machine learning and text analysis, as well as the creation of new AI algorithms. He employs learning analytics to assess the effectiveness of these technologies in educational settings, utilizing mixed methods for data analysis.1
In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, Hui has been recognized for his contributions to open education, receiving the Open Education Resources (OER) Excellence and Impact Award in May 2024.2 His professional activities also include giving talks and workshops on topics such as team formation algorithms and fostering equitable educational practices.34
