Birthe Lindenthal is the co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of OpenProject. She has been with the company since its inception, having built it up from the very beginning alongside her boyfriend (now husband) and CEO, Niels Lindenthal.1
As the CMO, Birthe is responsible for all marketing and communication programs at OpenProject. Her day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Working with the marketing team to organize efforts and priorities
- Reviewing the team's work
- Defining and maintaining the brand strategy
- Ensuring consistent messaging across all channels
- Managing the brand's identity
- Working on the company website
- Developing content strategies and topics
- Planning for conferences and industry events1
Birthe has been with OpenProject since before it transitioned to an open-source project management tool. Initially, the company offered custom development services, and Birthe handled marketing, communications, website management, and customer training workshops. She played a crucial role in the development of OpenProject, which started as a fork of Redmine to meet specific needs, including privacy requirements.1
Currently, Birthe is focused on leadership development as the company plans for growth. She is particularly interested in improving how the leadership team supports employees and the product.1
Outside of work, Birthe enjoys outdoor sports such as running, cycling, and hiking. She studied business administration at university, spending a year each in Spain and South Africa. Her first professional job after university was as an IT consultant at Accenture.1
Birthe is passionate about driving the organization forward and takes pride in the team's achievements. She values the collaborative nature of their work and appreciates that everyone can contribute to OpenProject's success.1
Birthe finds motivation in contributing to something larger than herself and takes joy in knowing that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) use OpenProject for free. She also faces unique challenges in marketing an open-source product.2
