    Bert Ruiter

    Bert Ruiter (26 November 1946 – 14 March 2022) was a notable Dutch bass guitarist, record producer, and composer. He gained fame primarily as the bassist for the progressive rock band Focus from 1971 to 1978 and later for Earth and Fire from 1978 to 1990. Ruiter was also known for his long-term partnership with Jerney Kaagman, the lead vocalist of Earth and Fire, whom he married in 1974. They remained together until his death from esophageal cancer in 2022.1

    Born Albertus Clemens Ruiter in Amsterdam, Ruiter began playing guitar at the age of twelve before switching to bass guitar. His musical career commenced in 1966 when he replaced Dick Ankersmit in the band The Caps.1
