Benjamin Gillies

Benjamin David Gillies, born on October 24, 1979, in Merewether, Newcastle, Australia, is an acclaimed musician best known as the drummer for the Australian rock band Silverchair. He co-founded the band in 1992 with his schoolmates Daniel Johns and Chris Joannou, and they quickly rose to fame with their debut EP Tomorrow, which topped the ARIA Singles Chart in 1994. Silverchair went on to release five number-one albums, including Frogstomp (1995) and Young Modern (2007), solidifying their place in rock history.14

In addition to his work with Silverchair, Gillies formed the band Tambalane in 2003 and later established Bento, where he took on lead vocal duties. He has also worked on solo projects, releasing music as recently as 2021.13 Throughout his career, Gillies has faced personal challenges, including struggles with anxiety and substance abuse, which he has openly discussed in interviews.15

Gillies married Jackie Ivancevic in 2010, who is known for her appearance on The Real Housewives of Melbourne. The couple welcomed twins in 2021 after multiple rounds of IVF and participated in the reality show The Amazing Race Australia in 2023.12
