Ben Hazelwood is a Partner at Williams & Connolly LLP, focusing his practice on complex civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels, as well as government investigations.12 He specializes in healthcare and False Claims Act litigation and investigations, representing clients across the healthcare industry, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical device companies, health insurers, and hospitals.1 Hazelwood also defends professional liability claims against lawyers and major law firms.1
Prior to joining Williams & Connolly in 2016, Hazelwood clerked for Judge Emmet G. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and Judge Karen Nelson Moore of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.1 He earned his B.S. in Philosophy, magna cum laude, from Northeastern University in 2008 and graduated from The George Washington University Law School with highest honors in 2011.1
Hazelwood was elected to partnership at Williams & Connolly effective January 1, 2023.2 He dedicates his pro bono practice to assisting recent immigrants in obtaining asylum and representing criminal defendants seeking sentence reductions.1 Notably, he was part of a team that won a landmark Supreme Court ruling regarding the 2018 First Step Act, which allows individuals serving lengthy sentences for decades-old crack-cocaine offenses to obtain sentence reductions.1
