Barbara Leigh
Co-Founder, Milwaukee Public Theatre
Barbara Leigh is a seasoned Mime, Clown, and Theatre artist with years of experience in the field. Her journey took a transformative turn after a tragic accident in 1987 left her partially paralyzed, leading her to focus on healing, disability, and diversity issues.
Barbara is best known for her impactful work, including the One-Woman Musical Comedy 'THE SURVIVAL REVIVAL REVUE!' shedding light on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and 'TAP The POTENTIAL' project showcasing artists with disabilities.
Collaborating with Associate MPT artist Karen Stobbe, Barbara has developed workshops and performances addressing Alzheimer's Disease, trauma, and the challenges caregivers face. Her contributions extend to productions like 'UNCLOTHED, the Naked Truth' and various social and environmental issue-themed shows.
As an Artist-In-Education since 1975, Barbara has conducted numerous workshops and collaborative performances across the state. Her expertise spans macromedia directorship, theatre productions, and educational workshops, offering keynote speeches to diverse clients.
Barbara holds a Ph.D. in French & Theatre from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, reflecting her academic dedication and passion for the arts. Currently serving as the Artistic/Producing Director of Milwaukee Public Theatre, she leads a wide range of projects.
