Arundhati Roy

Arundhati Roy is an Indian author and political activist who has gained worldwide attention for her literary works and social justice advocacy. She was born in 1961 in Shillong, Meghalaya, India, to a Keralite Syrian Christian mother and a Bengali father. Roy grew up in Kerala, where she attended school and later obtained her bachelor's degree in architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi.

Roy's writing career took off when she published her debut novel, "The God of Small Things," in 1997, which won the Booker Prize and became an international bestseller. She continued to write both fiction and non-fiction works addressing social and political issues in India and beyond, including poverty, feminism, environmentalism, and human rights. Her most recent work is the novel "The Ministry of Utmost Happiness," published in 2017.

Roy has also engaged in activism and advocacy for various causes, including anti-globalization, anti-war, and anti-privatization movements. She has been outspoken about issues such as Kashmir, caste-based discrimination, and the rights of indigenous people.

In addition to her literary works and activism, Roy has also worked as a screenwriter and filmmaker, and has received awards and recognition for her contributions to literature and human rights activism.
