Arun Balakumaran

Arun Balakumaran, M.D., Ph.D., is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Replay, a company focused on genomic medicine and engineered cell therapies. He joined Replay on May 22, 2023, bringing over 15 years of experience in clinical development within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. His previous roles include serving as CMO at Allogene Therapeutics and holding senior positions at Merck and Amgen, where he was instrumental in the development and approval of significant cancer therapies such as Pembrolizumab®.134

At Replay, Dr. Balakumaran is responsible for overseeing the clinical development of innovative genomic medicines, including engineered TCR-NK cell therapies aimed at treating various cancers. He also contributes to Syena, a subsidiary of Replay that focuses on pioneering engineered TCR-NK therapies derived from cord blood.123

Dr. Balakumaran's educational background includes a medical degree and a Ph.D., underscoring his expertise in immuno-oncology and cell and gene therapy.14
