Ariel Hall is a multi-disciplinary creative and small business owner who co-founded Periscope, a modern design shop in Rockland, Maine, with her partner Jan Leth.12 Periscope specializes in contemporary Scandinavian design and modern Maine-made home goods.1
Prior to opening Periscope, Ariel worked at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, where she helped establish the museum's Performance Department and performed in artists' works.2 She holds a BA in art, psychology, and feminist theory, and an MA in Performance Studies, both from New York University.2
Originally from Hope, Maine, Ariel spent several years working as an artist in New York City before returning to Maine.1 She and Jan met in Maine and bonded over their shared experience of leaving New York.1 Together, they opened Periscope to create a gallery-like space featuring functional objects treated as art.1
Ariel and Jan are now raising their daughter in the Camden and Spruce Head area of Maine.2 They are committed to showcasing both Scandinavian design, influenced by Jan's Danish heritage, and local Maine-made items in their store.1
