Continuing my dedication and growth at GenTX SA, I marshaled resources to produce maximum value while meeting the mission and goals of the organization.  Working side-by-side with the Executive Director, I established and monitored staff and support services through multiple tasks.  I helped lead the team by assigning accountability measures, setting objectives, establishing priorities, and conducting annual performance reviews.  Additionally, I worked to improve operational systems by defining project scope/goals, monitoring performance, implementing enhancements, and coordinating efforts of each staff member.  The best part of my job was developing our staff.  I felt proudest when I saw staff members' confidence build as they took ownership of their work.  It was the moment of seeing the work they enjoy doing and the work we need merging together that brought my role full circle.  Because of our exemplary leadership, team, and partners the mission that once seemed too ambitious is now was then within reach.

Recognizing the need for post secondary education in San Antonio, led to my partnership in founding a start-up nonprofit organization whose mission is to create a college-going culture in San Antonio in a single generation.  The ambitious mission and task required I take on specific responsibilities including: building a proforma, creating an operational budget, establishing internal policies and procedures, writing an employee handbook, and developing a team.  In my role as the Director of Operations & Finance, I developed a performance management process to measure staff progress of the organizational goals and executed the annual operational plan including budgeting cash-flow monitoring and constructing the strategic five-year plan and implement new processes and approaches to achieve goals.

Working with the Chief of Staff, I developed individual staff members to fulfill various project roles and identified organization’s inefficiencies to develop new structures and standard operating procedures.  I developed project plans and assumed budgetary responsibility for project profit and loss of seven departments. I successfully managed cross–functional teams in execution for on–time, on–budget project completion.  When the Chief of Staff was offered the position of Executive Director for a new nonprofit organization, she asked me to join her thus prompting my departure from the Hispanic Chamber.

Through building extensive relationships with a variety of organizations, journalists, cities and countries, I helped promote many things that make the City of McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley unique. We focused on promoting nature programs, city development, and eco–tourism for both areas. I initiated, planned and managed several major projects and events in McAllen and countries including, Mexico, Central America, & South  America. I successfully managed relationships and partnership between the Chamber of Commerce, event committees, volunteers, city departments, the City Council and private sector representatives regarding nature tourism, arts, and culture.  I supervised and delegated responsibilities a team of 150–500 staff, volunteers, and committee members for each city-wide project. Additionally, I directed and reviewed all media and public relations activities, including creative design and production of all print/web advertising for the Chamber of Commerce.

Initiated a school-wide college-readiness program and refined the current curriculum to address unique socio-economic challenges of student population in surrounding neighborhood.  Although my students were only 5 yrs old, their studies included making oral presentations, researching colleges, visiting university campuses, exploring out-of-the-ordinary careers, and developing life skills.  I still keep in contact with a few of my students who are now succeeding in junior high.

Through leading a partnership network of local businesses, schools, and churches I helped foster a community of music, art, and film to young people. As a team, we achieved our outreach goals through planning and coordinating weekly events including national concerts and festivals. In managing my team, I led the day-to-day operations of company venue, staff, and volunteers. Our proudest moments were watching the many young, unknown bands who traveled to play at our venue during their Texas tours then went on to land recording deals to play on national tours.

As most of the students at Bryan Elementary were Spanish speakers, I quickly recognized the need to create a pathway of communication to connect with them and cater to their needs. Therefore, I developed and implemented an ESL (English as a Second Language) curriculum with a focus on college- and career-readiness. The curriculum focused on students ranging from 3 – 4 years old. My proudest moment was seeing my students who entered speaking only Spanish, leave my classroom speaking, reading, and writing in English.

As AgTV helped pave the way for a music and film scene in College Station, I proudly founded and developed the network. Through various roles, I was ultimately responsible for overseeing eight channels of independent, student-created films, TV shows, and music videos.
