Air conditioning and refrigeration are critical for modern life.  The chemical refrigerants that make cost effective refrigeration possible are highly valuable, but, at the same time, detrimental to the environment.  Over the past 40 years, billions of pounds of these refrigerants, most with a global warming potential greater than 1,000x that of carbon dioxide, have been deployed globally.  While the HVAC/R industry is on the cusp rolling out new equipment and refrigerants that have less environmental impact, legacy equipment and refrigerants will be around for more than 20 years.  It is of critical importance during this massive infrastructure transition that as little virgin refrigerant be created to service legacy equipment as possible.  It is an attainable objective, but there is an unmet need for new technology and delivery models to make the refrigerant after-market more robust and dynamic.

I believe that with new technology, refrigerants can live more than one useful life.

-- Developed a demonstration project in South Africa with Eskom, Anglo American, and the US Trade and Development Agency
