Andrea Franco

Andrea Franco is an Associated Professor at the Economics and Social Faculty, School of Business and International Relations, Graduate School of Social Development, and Graduate School of Society and Education at Universidad de La Salle in Bogotá, Colombia. She is also an affiliated researcher at UNU MERIT, Maastricht, The Netherlands.
With a diverse background, Andrea has held positions such as Deputy Director of National Coordination of the Colombian Welfare System, affiliated researcher at the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance (MGSoG) and UNU-MERIT. She has also worked as a visiting research fellow at UNU-CRIS focusing on the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 in LAC.
Her educational journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Public Policy and Policy Analysis from Maastricht University, an MSc in Economics from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and a Bachelor's degree in Economics, also from Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
Throughout her career, Andrea has been involved in various institutions in Colombia, including the National Department of Planning and the Shelter and Housing Secretary of the Government of Bogota. She has also contributed as a researcher for the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, focusing on social development, transportation sustainability, monitoring and evaluation systems, and governance and corruption.
Her research interests encompass a wide array of topics such as Social Policy, Monitoring and Evaluation, Poverty, Inequality, Conditional Cash Transfers, Health Insurance, Ageing, Food Security, Economic and Social Development, Quantitative Methods, Poverty Measurement, and Multidimensional Poverty.
Andrea Franco has previously served as a Lecturer at Universidad de Los Andes and held roles as an Associated Professor and Affiliated Researcher at various institutions like Universidad de La Salle and UNU-MERIT. She has also worked in advisory and consultancy positions at the National Planning Department, Secretaria Distrital del Habitat, and General Accountability Office among others.
