    André Ceccotti

J.D. Candidate at NYU School of Law

André Ceccotti is an assistant public defender at the Mecklenburg County Public Defender's Office in Charlotte, North Carolina.1 He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2018 as a Morehead-Cain Scholar.1 During his time at UNC, André was involved in various leadership roles and participated in summer enrichment programs, including a public service internship at a rainforest research foundation in Brazil in 2016.1

André has a background in legal aid and advocacy. During a summer internship in San Francisco in 2015, he provided translation services at a legal aid organization serving vulnerable community members.2 This experience coincided with the Supreme Court's decision on same-sex marriage, which was particularly significant for André as a queer man.1

In his current role, André is committed to creating a more fair and human-centered justice system, inspired by his academic experiences, particularly his work with Professor Frank Baumgartner in the Political Science Department at UNC.1
