Alfred Apps is a prominent Canadian lawyer, businessman, and political activist. He was born in 1957 in Brantford, Ontario, and grew up in Woodstock, Ontario.1 Apps obtained his BA in philosophy and economics from Huron University College at the University of Western Ontario in 1979 and graduated in law from the University of Toronto in 1984.1
Throughout his career, Apps has been recognized as a leading counsel in various areas of law, including restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, private equity investment, and infrastructure finance.12 He has been ranked by Lexpert and UK-based Practical Law Company as one of Canada's leading lawyers in these fields.1

- Serving as debtor counsel in the $32 billion restructuring of the Canadian asset-backed commercial paper market, the largest debt restructuring in Canadian history.12
- CEO of The Lehndorff Group (1993-1998), where he led a 47-lender $1 billion debt restructuring and oversaw the creation of one of Canada's first Real Estate Investment Trusts.1
- President and COO of Dundee Realty Corporation (now Dream) in 1998.1
- CEO of Newstar Technologies Inc. (1998-2001).1
Apps has been associated with several law firms throughout his career. He joined Fasken as an associate in 1989 and became a partner in 1991.1 In 2012, he moved his practice to Wildeboer Dellelce LLP, a corporate, securities, and tax firm he helped found in 1993.14 However, as of 2015, he moved his practice to Miller Thomson LLP, where he was head of the firm's national structured finance and securitization practice until 2024.1
In addition to his legal career, Apps has been active in politics, serving as President of the Liberal Party of Canada.3 He is also involved in various philanthropic and charitable causes.1
