Director of Basketball Innovation at Portland Trail Blazers

Alexander Powell is the Director of Basketball Innovation for the Portland Trail Blazers, a position he has held since 2022.1234 Prior to joining the Trail Blazers, he worked as the Head of Quantitative Analysis & Development for the Charlotte Hornets from 2019 to the present.1

Powell has a strong background in basketball analytics and data science. He previously served as a Basketball Operations Quantitative Analyst for the Charlotte Hornets from 2018 to 2019.1 He also interned with the Hornets' basketball analytics department in 2017.1

In addition to his NBA experience, Powell worked as a Sports Information Statistician at Kenyon College from 2014 to 2018, where he assisted the sports information office with tasks such as managing in-game statistics, updating the athletics website, and organizing sports archives.1

Powell holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Kenyon College and a Master's degree in Data Science from Northwestern University.1
