I sought businesses, churches and individuals to partner with Habitat for Humanity Upper Fraser Valley in providing a hand up, not a hand out to hardworking deserving families through affordable home ownership. This involved soliciting gifts-in-kind, cash donations, purchase of Build Days and recruiting volunteers,

Major Accomplishments:
•	Solicited one of the largest cash donations in Habitat for Humanity Canada's history of $2,050,000.
•	Negotiated lease and option to purchase store location in Abbotsford
•	Researched and wrote the business plan and approached financial institutions, successfully arranging financing to enable the purchase of store location in Abbotsford. Through this purchase Habitat UFV now has close to $5 million dollars in equity.
•	Successfully assisted in below market purchase of land from District of Mission to build 18 townhome units for low income home purchases (purchased land for $180,000 valued at over $1.5 million)
•	Assisted in organizing 4 concerts to raise funds and raise community profile
•	Helped in organizing first ever Gala for the Upper Fraser Valley featuring Canadian Astronaut, Chris Hatfield
•	Solicited cash donations and gifts-in-kind donations of more than $4.5 million dollars
•	Spoke in churches, special events, seminars and at business events across the Fraser Valley
•	Built a data base of over 2,000 individuals and businesses (personal meetings and special events)

Vice Chairman Board of Directors (Elected) Volunteer Position

Q-Soup provided individuals with specially designed software enabling the ability to track, model buying habits and decisions and providing a simple, easy to use, budgeting tool. Wrote the Christian based teaching of the beta version, successfully tested by Family Life Ministries, a mission of Power to Change. The objective was to help individuals and families learn to live within their means, get out of debt and to be able to give to support their local church, para church ministries and charities.
Also provided consulting and training for a variety of charities.

Managed a sales & marketing company located in Toronto, Ont which marketed National Post, Toronto Star, Toronto Sun Newspapers & Toronto Life Magazine. I hired, trained and motivated a staff of 65 people. I also obtained locations (25+ weekly) including in store locations, mall locations, trade shows and organized door-to-door sales teams. Sales ranged from $50-70,000 per week. (Increased sales from $2.3 to $3.2 million in annual revenue).

Alan saw a tremendous opportunity in the energy savings and environmental conservation (greenhouse gas reduction) realm under the Federal Government of Canada’s EnerGuide for Houses Grant Program. 
Alan became a Certified EnerGuide Evaluator and then applied business and marketing principals to grow the company to become the largest independent provider of EnerGuide services in BC with operations in Vancouver, Abbotsford, Kamloops and Kelowna.
Alan developed a working relationship and was the featured home energy advisor and EnerGuide for Houses expert, being interviewed by CTV’s evening news, “Olsen on Side.” As well, Alan provided interviews and expertise to Shell Busby for radio and newspaper. Alan and his company were also featured in several newspaper articles.
The Federal Government cancelled the program with only 24-hours’ notice, forcing the company to cease operations.

I reversed a three-year, 20 % decline per year donations and increased revenues by 38% in year one. My responsibilities included the set up and launch of a successful capital campaign and obtained several lead donations to kick off the campaign. This resulted in the building of a third school. I was also instrumental in the negotiations to acquire a Christian private school in Chilliwack, BC.
I reorganized a failing Annual Golf Tournament, which had lost money from its inception, and obtained major sponsors and participants, generating $18,000 profit year one and $56,000 profit in year two. I was also responsible for organizing and raising funds through annual Christmas pageants (3), an annual play, four Christian music concerts, an annual Artist auction, two missions’ trips and numerous smaller class and event fundraisers. I was also responsible to implement a new fundraising program (Raiser’s Edge).

Mennonite Educational Institute

Director of Development

Developed donor relations, identified and created a Major Gifts program, wrote newsletters, and designed and wrote appeals. I spoke and preached in Churches, Christian Schools and to groups across Canada. My responsibilities included Church relations and Scripture/Bible sales to churches for Pew Bible’s and for outreach, evangelism and teaching. I assisted in the creation and design of Project Catalogues for support of translation of the scriptures into over 250 different languages around the world. The ghost writing, and design of appeals and newsletters were also an important part of my responsibilities.
I also arranged and hosted speaking tours and banquet fundraisers and I co-founded, "The Light" Scripture distribution volunteer groups across Canada.

International Bible Society

I served as Canadian Director of an international Christian organization that provided relief and development in Eastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria and China) after the downfall of Communism. Through their subsidiary organization, Child Rescue International, they helped support 44,000+ orphans and abandoned children through child sponsorship. 
I spoke and preached in Churches, Christian Schools and to groups across Canada. I designed and wrote all appeals, newsletters and thank you letters. As well, I taught and preached at churches, schools and orphanages in Romania and Albania. I restarted the charity in Canada and grew the organization to 100+ volunteers and annual donations of $450,000 cash and $4.5 million in gifts in kind.

Under contractual relationship with Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, Red Deer, and other Chambers of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce; they sold advertising and printed annual directories. They also created, wrote and published special commemorative issue books, sold advertising, printed, published and distributed, ``Welcome to`` books for hotels, Welcome Wagon, and existing and new Chamber members.

Utilizing a joint venture model with the local Chamber of Commerce, under the name Turning Point Programs, internationally recognized speakers were brought in to provide full, one day training programs. Alan was responsible to book the venues, create mailings and phone call follow-ups and to provide personal sales presentations to business owners to sell the seminars.

They also managed, sold, and hosted training programs, bringing in special, top ranked speakers and trainers from across North America.

Alan was the Top Sales Producer Canada in 1983, 84, and 85, while also managing the Western Offices and supervising 15 full time sales representatives.

Responsible for personal lending, overdraft approval, vehicle loans, mortgages, small business loans and supervision of 11 person branch administration team in a downtown branch.

Assistant Manager

Alan supervised branch staff of 64 people in downtown area of Calgary, (largest branch outside of Calgary Main and Edmonton Main in Prairie Provinces). Responsible for all administration, branch expenses, budgeting and branch profitability.

Performed internal profit analysis, identifying a major account status change that had eliminated branch profitability, assisted in renegotiating the services, loan and overdraft agreements with VP, Divisional Manager, and Branch Manager to return branch to profitable status.

Alan performed detailed administration and security audits in surprise visits to ATB branches across the province. Wrote complete report, analysis and action plan to implement improvements, staff training in order to achieve compliance to Operations Procedures and Policies. 

Trained, supervised and managed up to 8 Auditors. Alan gave oral reports and written follow-up to branch management and to VP Audits for later follow-up.
